WOW Air is expanding its base and stepping into Asia. This may seem to be a good news for the budget travellers in particular. The Icelandic low-cost carrier is planning to launch new routes from 9 different US cities to Delhi. This is particularly done to match the footsteps of its closest competitor the Icelander Airline which announced its own set of routes to stay put in the low-cost game of cheap budget travel.  A trip to India, via Iceland, will just start with a fare as low as $199 one-way.

These cheap flights will be available in the beginning of  December, from destinations like Newark (EWR), Boston (BOS), Baltimore (BWI), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Pittsburgh (PIT), Detroit (DTW), San Francisco (SFO), Los Angeles (LAX), and St. Louis (STL).

However, there is a catch to it. The cheap flight that comes for a $199 price one way will only be available on select dates in the month of January, February, and March. However, the fares in the month of December will place a notch above at $299 for a one-way ticket. And since return flights also start at $199 one-way, it means that passengers can get a grab on a barebone deal with a total spending of $398 only to commute between these US cities and Delhi.

However, there are strings attached to it as not everything comes for free. The ultra-low-cost airlines make up for what it gives away with extra fees for amenities. Many of these amenities might be quite important on a long haul flight — some of which may be very important on a long-haul flight like this one. The cheapest fares include only a personal item, but it doesn’t include any carry-on. Passengers need to pay an extra $49 on a cabin luggage or a hand luggage, they also plan to go ahead with an $80 fee for a checked baggage. And the list of paid facilities continues. Passengers who would like to select a seat as per preferences will have to shell out extra with a fee starting at $7.

Despite the deal having several stumbling blocks it still opens a window of hope for those budget travellers who want to explore newer destinations without burning a hole in their pockets. And the latest in their itinerary is going to be Delhi, the land of heritage that blends beautifully with the charm and uber life of the cosmopolitan world.

And for those travellers who still want to hold on to a relative deal but don’t want to sacrifice comfort, WOW Air has a premium seating plan for them.

It is a priority scheme which enables them to get access to 2 checked bags(20kg per bag), 1 personal item for 10 kg, extra wide seats with plenty of leg room that has a pitch of 37 inches, cancellation protection that ensures a refund if the flight is cancelled due to unavoidable reason, fast-track security at key airport, priority boarding with a guaranteed overhead baggage space and in-flight meal option.  Premium seats to Delhi start at $699 for a one-way ticket.
