The airline first got launched in the year 1932 as Tata Airlines by J.R.D. Tata who also flew to Bombay’s Juhu Aerodrome from Karachi in the first single engine de Havilland Puss Moth for air mail. The airline became public limited company after World War 2 and was thus renamed Air India. In the year 1960 on 21st February Air India took in the first ever Boeing 707 – 420 called Gauri Shankar which resulted in naming the airlines as the first Asian Airline including jet aircraft in their Air Fleet.
