The National Museum of the Air Force was formerly known as the United States Air Force Museum. It is located in Dayton, Ohio. It is the official museum of the US Airforce which is situated at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base which is around 6 miles northeast of the Dayton. It is one of the world’s largest and oldest aviation museum ever established. It is as if you have stepped into the actual US Aviation Base. It gives you such a spectacular visual experience which you will always relish forever.

History

The National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio dates back to 1923, when the technical artifacts where collected in order to preserve by the Engineering Division at the Dayton’s McCook field. Later on, it was moved in the laboratory building of the Wright Field around 1927. Then in 1932, this collection of the aviation artifacts was known as the Army Aeronautical Museum and it was placed in a WPA building from the year 1935 till the World War II. It remained as a private museum till 1948 in the Air Force Technical Museum but in 1954, it was open for all the people as it became public and was housed in its very first permanent facility i.e. Building 89 of the former Patterson Field in the Fairborn. At the time many of the aircraft were parked outside, exposed to the weather till 1971. Then a current facility was open which does not include the garrison on the Wright Field but the museum has acquired more area since 1971, which includes the addition of the second hangar in 1988, third in the year 2003 and the fourth in 2016.

The museum was renamed in the month of October in 2004. It is the essential section of the National Aviation Heritage Area.

About the Museum
