Being the eighth largest regional airline in the USA, Horizon Air has sufficient resources to offer its passengers what they desire for and some more. Because of its popularity and as a strategy to become even more popular, the airline has been featured in several movies and most notably, Georgia which was released in 1995. Currently, the airline serves 42 cities in both the United States and Canada.
Horizon Airlines began operations on 1st September 1989. Its pioneering fleet comprised of 3 Fairchild F-27 aircraft which made trips from Yakima to Seattle and from Pasco to Seattle. The first Dornier 328 turboprop was sold to Horizon and was meant to replace the Fairchild aircraft. It purchased several in the 1990s but later switched to Dash 8s. Alaska Airlines took over Horizon’s management in 2011.

Horizon offers regional flights which take 4 to 5 hours at most. It would be nice if they started offering in-flight Internet access like Alaska but most passengers are okay without it. For flights which take more than 3½ hours, passengers can rent a tablet which is loaded with movies, TV shows, XBOX games and digital magazines. First class passengers get the tablet for free.
Horizon Air’s entire fleet comprises of 52 Bombardier Q400 which can accommodate 76 passengers in economy class and 9 Embrarer 175. The entire fleet is operated in single class (economy) configuration.
As stated before, Horizon Air operates regionally in the United States and as a marketing effort it strives to connect with the underlying liberal culture. This is evident in its creative livery on some of its planes. Although retired now, flight N425QX was special in that it had a 25th Anniversary theme for its livery with bright colors. There are other Bombardier Q400s with special livery. Most of them have logos and colors of universities on the West Coast. Just to cite a few, University of Idaho Vandals, University of Montana Grizzlies and University of Oregon Ducks.
Horizon airways services 45 destinations in the United States and Canada. These destinations are in the states of Idaho, California, Nevada, Montana, Washington, Alberta, Oregon and British Columbia. All of these destinations are on the West Coast of the United States except for British Columbia in Canada. Horizon Air code shares with Alaska Airline, American Airlines and hence allowing its customers to fly to US cities it does not serve as well as other destinations around the world.
